Arriving!

Hello everyone! We have finally made it to Chiang Mai after two days of traveling. I have done a lot of traveling before but this was the worst... but most fun! We started out flying for 12 hours to Tokyo, Japan and then staying there for 6 hours. Even though we didn`t get to leave the airport I still feel like I got a taste of the culture. After that we flew for 6.5 hours to Bangkok. This was a great flight because I had a whole row to myself and I slept the entire time we were in the air, and if you know me you know that this is a big deal because I can`t sleep very well in places other than my bed. We arriving in Bangkok around 11 pm which was 11 am in Dallas and we waited till our flight left at 6:05 am. Then the flight was only one hour and we were finally here in Chiang Mai making our trip around 37 hours long. This was a very long trip but it was also a great bonding experience for my team. We are going to have a blast over the next ten weeks!

After the airport we went to the Christian Zone, which is the name of the campus ministry for Payap University and also where we are living. When we got there we met two other interns; Grace from Singapore and Mit from Malasia. We then went straight to a girls house whose name is Jaja. This was my first experience with the Thai people but I have already decided that they are the most polite people I have ever met. It is such a blessing to be able to learn from and become friends with people who are so wonderful to everyone they meet. After leaving her house Natalie, Emi and I went to have our first real Thai meal. We went to a place right across from the Christian Zone and I have the most wonderful yet most spicy meal I had ever had. This Thai food thing is going to be a great adventure for me!

Tonight we are going to help some foreign exchange students from China make chinese food and then we are going to have cell group, which is just like wednesday night at a church. This should be great because it is the first time we are really interacting with the students involved in the ministry.

Well that is about it for our first day in Chiang Mai. Tomorrow we will be coming into the mountains and we are having a retreat there and spending the night in a shack. We are also going to visit a Buddhist temple in the mountains so that should be interesting. I will let you know how this weekend goes in the beautiful mountains of Thailand... that`t right be jealous!!!

Leaving!

I am leaving tomorrow for Chaing Mai, Thailand. After six months of preparation the day has finally come. My team and I are leaving to this new place we have never been and we are so excited. We can't wait to see where we are going to be living for the next ten weeks and to see what God has in store for us this summer. My teammates are Natalie, Emi, Kelsi, and Malindi. Please keep us in your prayers!
